1 lb. dates
1 Cup boiling water
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda

Pour boiling water over dates and salt and let stand until cool.

Cream:
1 Cup sugar
2 tsp butter
2 Eggs, well beaten
1.5 Cup cake flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 Cup walnut meats, cut up

Add cooled date mixture and bake 45 to 60 minutes in moderate oven 350 degrees. Bakes 2 loaf cakes.
